Did you know that there is a new technology currently studied by Russian scientists to protect Internet of Things (IoT) data better than smart devices?
The Internet of Things seems pretty convenient enough as several devices, such as your smart homes and smart cars, are interconnected yet could be controlled remotely with its technology.
However, the connection between these smart devices leads to significant risks for information loss, since they usually interact using the Web and sensors. You have to keep in mind that smart devices also need protection. Be mindful that you need to protect data transmitted through the network if you are using Internet of Things.
Other potential risks and observed large-scale threats in its implementation include:
- access denial
- technical failures
- data security breaches
- information leakages
- system crash
- safety threats
With regard to the threats suggested by Gleb Radchenko, a team of Russian Scientists, together with scientists from the South Ural State University, proposed a transmission, encryption, and storage of information that surpass existing analogs in reliability.
WA-MRC-RRNS: A Scientific Intervention to Address Pitfalls of Internet of Things
The need arises to address the perceived drawbacks of Internet of Things, especially with its disadvantages in safekeeping data. Some entities under the international team of scientists proposed their ideas improving the Internet of Things devices’ systems include:
- Russian Academy Sciences
- Andrei Chernykh – head of International Laboratory for Problem-Oriented Cloud Environments (HSE)
- Mexico – Center for Scientific Research and Higher Education in Ensenada
These scientists introduced WA-MRC-RRNS. This newly-devised technology is their own designed storage architecture with an encryption method. It permits a person to store parts of data in different cloud storage owned by other people. Radchenko added that an attacker would not recover information from an obstructed partial data set from a failed attempt to block data.
Radchenko assured that such a scheme would allow data recovery from parts sent to other storages; if you lost that part of the data due to a failure.
Eyes Set on the New WA-MRC-RRNS: Improvements for the Future
An international team of researchers discovered the proposed data scheme’s effectiveness by conducting a theoretical analysis of:
- information loss
- data redundancy
- decoding speed
The results showed that the probability of data loss in using WA-MRC-RRNS storage architecture is less compared to existing schemes. Furthermore, its data transfer rate is higher.
The researchers aimed to conduct studies on the scheme’s performance through:
- idle conditions
- changes in parameters
To have more accurate results from tests, the team plans to have WA-MRC-RRNS compared with some replication methods.

Given this, SUSU became one of the participants in the 5-100 Project, which aims to gain acceleration for Russian universities’ competitiveness against most of the world’s known leading research and educational centers.
SUSU also signed an agreement with Samsung to open a Samsung Internet of Things Academy with a training laboratory intended for studying the Internet of Things technologies at its Higher School of Electronics and Computer Science.
